Frequently Asked Questions about Tanzania Safari

Find answers to the most common questions about planning your Tanzanian adventure.

What is the best time to visit Tanzania for a safari?

+

The best time for wildlife viewing is during the dry season from late June to October. The Great Migration river crossings typically occur between July and August. January to February is excellent for calving season in the southern Serengeti.

Do I need vaccinations to visit Tanzania?

+

Yes, a yellow fever vaccination is required for entry into Tanzania. We also recommend vaccinations for hepatitis A and B, typhoid, and ensuring your routine vaccinations are up to date. Malaria prophylaxis is strongly advised - consult with your doctor before traveling.

What should I pack for a safari?

+

We recommend neutral-colored clothing (khaki, green, beige), comfortable walking shoes, a wide-brimmed hat, sunscreen, binoculars, camera with extra batteries, lightweight rain jacket, and warm layers for early morning game drives. Don't forget your passport and necessary travel documents!

How far in advance should I book my safari?

+

We recommend booking at least 6-9 months in advance, especially if you're traveling during peak season (June-October) or want to stay at specific premium lodges.

What is included in your safari packages?

+

Our packages typically include park fees, accommodation, meals, professional guide services, transportation in 4x4 safari vehicles, and drinking water. International flights, visas, travel insurance, gratuities, and personal expenses are generally not included.

Do you offer customized itineraries?

+

Absolutely! We specialize in creating personalized itineraries based on your interests, budget, and time constraints. Whether you're interested in photography, birdwatching, or family-friendly activities, we can tailor your safari experience.

Is it safe to travel to Tanzania?

+

Yes, Tanzania is considered a very safe and stable destination for tourists, with a well-established tourism industry; common sense precautions should be taken regarding your belongings in urban areas, and it is highly advisable to only travel with reputable tour operators and guides while on safari.

What is the visa process for Tanzania?

+

Most travelers can easily obtain a tourist visa upon arrival at major airports and border posts by presenting a valid passport with at least six months' validity and paying the fee in USD cash, though applying for an e-visa online beforehand is often recommended to avoid potential queues.

Can I combine a safari with a beach holiday in Zanzibar?

+

Absolutely, combining a wildlife safari on the mainland with a relaxing beach extension on the spice islands of Zanzibar or Mafia is one of the most popular and highly recommended itineraries, offering the perfect blend of adventure and relaxation.

What kind of accommodation can I expect on safari?

+

Tanzania offers a wide range of accommodations to suit all preferences, from basic public campsites and comfortable lodges to incredibly luxurious tented camps with permanent structures and private balconies, as well as exclusive private villas and concessions.

Will I have reliable internet and phone reception on safari?

+

While hotels in cities and towns have reliable Wi-Fi, internet access on safari is often limited and unreliable; many remote camps and lodges may offer Wi-Fi in central areas, but it is typically slow and satellite-based, so preparing to be disconnected is part of the authentic safari experience.
